Political parties said Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi's suggestion of a single electoral bloc for Egypt's mainstream political parties in the upcoming parliamentary elections wasn't expected to see much success, Al Bawaba news reported. According to Gaber Al Shehabi, chairman of Geel Party, Sisi initiated the idea in the presence of representatives from more than 30 political parties in a meeting on May 27. "The president said this initiative was important because it will help most political parties win seats and ensure that the remnants of the two former regimes, Mubarak's and the Muslim Brotherhood's, would not join the next parliament", Al Shehabi told Ahram Online. "Everyone should put the national interest above political competitiveness in the current situation." Al Sisi said, replying to a comment that this initiative violated the principle of political competitiveness and stripped the parliament of any diversity in opinions.
