The Libyan military attacked a Turkish commercial ship heading to Derna port in the Mediterranean Sea after the vessel ignored the Libyan warnings not to approach Yemeni ports, Colonel Mohammed Hijazi, an army spokesman, said Monday, Al Bawaba reported. The ship is now being towed to Tabruk port for its cargo to be checked, Hijazi said. The Turkish cargo ship was off the coast of Libyan port city of Derna when the strike that killed a Turkish crew member took place, Turkish foreign ministry said, adding that the ship was air struck while trying to leave the area. The ministry asserted that one officer killed and other crew staff injured during the attack, pointing out the ship was in international waters.
