A military barge carrying 500 tons of phosphate capsized and sank in the Nile River late Tuesday after it collided with the Dandara Bridge in Upper Egypt's Qena. No casualties were reported, according to Al Bawaba news. Egypt's Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi said a state of extreme emergency was declared as all the cargo had been lost in the river. "An operation room was set up to control the situation," Moghazi added, indicating the army had deployed huge dredgers to remove the minerals from the riverbed. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Qena Water and Sewerage Company Hany Hamdy, decided to close five drinking water plants surrounding the capsize area. Hamdy announced that the company's laboratories had sent a team to take water samples to apply safety measures.
