A state of division hit Egypt's Salafist Nour Party recently after the decision adopted by its leader Younis Makhion to separate between the Salafists' religious role and their political approach, according to Al Bawaba News. A source revealed, on condition of anonymity, that the Islamist party ordered its leaders not to issue any religious fatwa threatening to exclude those who would violate the decision from the political work. The decision comes after a controversial fatwa issued by the party's leading member Gamal Metwaly to deprive the people from celebrating Spring Holiday. He also banned congratulating the Christians on their religious holidays. The source said that the decision targeted Metwaly specifically as one of the prominent leaders in the party. He is scheduled to run for the coming parliamentary elections. On the other hand, a number of young members of the party expressed resentment over the decision. They organized a campaign on Facebook accusing the Salafist party of giving the priority to the politics at the expense of its religious role. They demanded the Nour Party to issue a statement to clarify their position from the religious role especially after the increasing Muslim Brotherhood (MB)'s criticism against the Salafists in this regard.
