Egypt's presidency stated Thursday that the Egyptian navy and air force will join the 'Decisive Storm' military operation launched by Saudi Arabia and GCC states against Houthi militants in Yemen, state run news agency (MENA) reported. "In response to Yemen's calls for intervention, and in consistency with the decision of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to support the legitimacy of Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, approved by the Yemeni people, and based on Egypt's responsibility to preserve the Arab national security in the Gulf and the Red Sea region. In coordination with the joint Arab defense agreement and the Charter of the Arab League, it is inevitable for Egypt to bear responsibility and meet the call of Yemeni people to restore stability and preserve the Arab identity, through the participation of Egypt's armed forces, the Navy and Air Force after the constitutional procedures are met, to restore stability and legitimacy in Yemen," the statement read. "Egypt hopes that this military operation will lead to the restoration of security and stability of Yemen, under its legitimate leadership, and the elimination of calls for strife which threatens the country's unity," it added.
