Security forces arrested Wednesday a member of the Helwan Brigades militant group over terror related charges, including joining a terrorist organization, the murder of a policeman and setting fire to police vehicles. Former member of the Helwan Brigades group, 22 year-old Waleed Saad claimed responsibility for the murder of a policeman and the bombing of the University of Helwan. Saad said he joined the group 6 months after the disband of the Muslim Brotherhood's sit in in Raba'a, where he was shot by a policeman, which encouraged him to carry out revenge attacks against security personnel. He added that he was recruited by 2 senior members of the outlawed MB, who provided the group with weapons and Molotov cocktails, which were later used in attacks against security forces and police vehicles. Saad admitted that he took part in the attack on a police station in Zilzal, south Cairo, as a group of armed militants set fire to the police station after attacking the guards. The members of the Helwan Brigades were arrested after security forces traced a video released by the group on the anniversary of the disperse of Raba'a sit in, showing the group's militants in military outfits threatening of attacks against military and police personnel, according to security sources.
