French Defence Minister Jean-Yves le Drian said France and Egypt will reach an agreement by end February over selling 24 Dassault Rafale fighter jets to Egypt, Le Point magazine reported on Tuesday. A joint statement by both Egyptian and French presidents is expected to be released within days in regards to the new weapons deal between the two countries. The 6 billion euros worth French deal will also include a Fremm naval frigate and MBDA missiles. Senior French officials have repeatedly visited Cairo in 2014, and President Abdel Fatah Al Sisi visited Paris in November, for talks over replacing Egypt's fleet of 18 Dassault Mirage jets. Military sources declared that Rafale are one of the most effective and sophisticated fighter jets in the world, the twin-jet combat aircraft is capable of carrying out a wide range of short and long-range missions, including ground and sea attacks, reconnaissance, high-accuracy strikes and nuclear strike deterrence. The aircraft was developed for the French Air Force and Navy.
