Kolenda Grabar Kitarovic won Monday the Croatian presidency election, according to the official results of the second round, which took place on January 11, and became the first female president of Croatia. Kitarovic, the Democratic Union Party member won the election with 50.74 % of votes, whereas her competitor, Ivo Josipovic received 49.26% of votes. Meanwhile, the participation percentage in the elections reached 59.05%. Kitarovic, 46 years will take into office on 19 February. She was born on 29 April 1968, then attended the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, graduating in 1992 from 2011 until 2014 she served as the Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy at NATO, and became a member of the conservative Croatian Democratic Union party since 1993.
