Islamic state (IS) militants allegedly shot down a military aircraft and captured its pilot early Monday north of Baghdad, according to a statement on IS radio. The statement asserted that IS militants had downed a warplane and taken captive its pilot without revealing whether the plane was affiliated to US-led coalition or the Iraqi air force. This incident marks the second time the extremist group has shot down a plane and captured its pilot. Last week, IS militants had taken a Jordanian fighter pilot captive after his plane crashed in northern Syria following a coalition air raid over Raqqa in Syria. The U.K.-based monitoring group, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that ISIS shot the plane down with antiaircraft missiles that they obtained from military bases they had seized in Iraq and Syria.
