Egypt's Abdel Fatah al-Sisi commented Monday on the verdict of Cairo Criminal Court, to drop murder charges against former President Hosni Mubarak, he affirmed there would be no return to an old Egypt, according to Agence France-Presse. The current president talked to his people saying "The new Egypt, which emerged from the January 25 and June 30 revolutions, is on a path to establish a modern democratic state," through a statement released Sunday night. Sisi added that new Egypt would be based on "justice, freedom, equality and a renunciation of corruption". The elected President asserted that no way to go back to the past. The statement added that Sisi had instructed Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab to review the provisions for compensation for the families of "martyrs and revolution's injuries". As a reaction to Saturday's verdict, Sisi had also asked the legal reform committee to examine amendments to the code of criminal procedure, as recommended by the court. Mubarak, his two sons, old friend Hussein Salem and feared former interior minister Habib al-Adly, were acquitted over the deaths of 800 people, killed during the protests of January 2011 uprising against Mubarak's regime.
