The European Aviation Safety Agency EASA is conducting a regular inspection to maintenance facilities of the national carrier EgyptAir next week. The inspection is scheduled to take place from 15-19 April at the engineering complex operated by the corporate technical branch, EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering ME. "This is an annual inspection to examine the commitment to international legislation concerned with overhauling and maintenance of aircraft," explained engineer Sadd Mekawi, chairman of EgyptAir ME. "According to the final inspection, inspectors approve the facilities and renovate the license accrediting it as an international centre," Mekawi added. EgyptAir ME obtained in 2006 an EASA certificate accrediting it as a regional and international overhauling centre. Ever since, the company has successfully renewed the license every year. According to Mekawi, obtaining the EASA certificate is a strong way to attract new customers and maintain their trust of the advanced abilities the centre possesses. "It helps expanding the range of technical services offered through our stations as well as the main business at the engineering complex," he added. EASA inspectors are set to visit the company's facilities at both Cairo Airport and Alexandria's Borg Al-Arab airport. EgyptAir ME is accredited to carry out overhauling and maintenance services to aircraft classes of Airbus, Boeing and Embraer. The services include total care maintenance solutions, Pool Support and Continuous Airworthiness Management. The company on the other hand, has been expanding in Africa and recently attracted more clients to its overhauling facilities. Last week a delegation from Mauritania Airlines International paid a visit to EgyptAir ME facilities in Cairo to explore the potential for future cooperation. The delegation consisted of Hassena Ould Ali, CEO Mauritania Airlines International, Al-Hacen Deidi, technical division director and Jean Luc Micoud, engineering director. Following a tour through the main engine workshop, Hangar 8000, Avionics, Mechanical Components and Technical Warehouse, the delegation admired the high performance of the workshop. "The engineering complex enjoys tremendous capabilities and an excellent reputation worldwide," commented Ould Ali. He added that suggested cooperation between the two companies includes base maintenance at the Egyptian hangars, spare parts pooling services and technical support by EgyptAir technical teams. Both companies signed a contract under which Mauritania Airlines will perform the heavy maintenance for three B737-700 and B737-500 aircraft at EgyptAir ME hangars. Mauritania Airlines International is the flag carrier of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and is owned by the government.
