By Mona El-Nahhas Back to Algiers EGYPTIAN Ambassador to Algeria Abdel-Aziz Seif El-Nasr returned to Algiers on Saturday after a diplomatic row over football. On 21 November Egypt summoned Seif El-Nasr for consultations after Algerian fans reportedly attacked Egyptian spectators in Sudan following a World Cup qualifier. Egyptian businesses in Algiers were also ransacked, the Foreign Ministry said. That same week, Egypt also summoned the Algerian ambassador to Egypt to protest against the disturbances. Pick one IN ITS FINAL report, Cairo University's consultative engineering committee has suggested three alternatives to treat construction faults at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The available options as recommended by the committee: restoring the building in 18 months for LE30 million; further restoration within 18 to 24 months at a cost of nearly LE150 million; demolishing the building and building a new one in four years costing LE300 million. The committee's report is due to be submitted to the Cabinet and the Higher Education Ministry. Prosecutor-General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud assigned the National Centre for Construction and Housing Research to form a technical committee that will examine the construction faults and prepare another report. The NCI, an affiliate of Cairo University and which hosts 100,000 patients a year, was partially evacuated two weeks ago after parts of the ceiling of its southern wing collapsed. Until the future of the NCI is determined, patients will be sent to other Cairo hospitals. Building collapse THREE people died and four were injured when a two-storey building and surrounding structures in Karmouz in Alexandria collapsed on Sunday morning. The incident occurred immediately after the ceiling of the upper storey fell, causing the building to implode. A decree ordering the demolition of the building was issued in 2006, however, residents contested it, insisting on remaining in the building at their own risk. The Karmouz prosecution issued immediate evacuation orders to eight nearby buildings. Fall from bridge A SPEEDING microbus fell off the 6th of October bridge in Abbasiya on Saturday evening, causing the death of six passengers and the injury of nine others including the driver. Three of the injured are in critical condition. The microbus smashed into the bridge's railings before falling from 20 metres. Apparently the driver was talking on his mobile phone while driving. Before the crash, he was reported to have been arguing with one of the passengers who asked him to slow down.
