Q: I am looking for windsurfing clubs on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, particularly the stretch between Alexandria and Al-Alamein, although further west to Marsa Matrouh would be fine as well. What cities/locations/sites or clubs should I check out? Any information will be highly appreciated. Astrid Van Damme Gent, Belgium Unfortunately, the North Coast isn't exactly where windsurfing thrives. In fact, the stretch of shoreline from Alexandria through Al-Alamein as far as Marsa Matrouh has no windsurfing clubs at all! However, the Red Sea has many facilities for this sport. The 95km stretch of beach around Ras Sedr is only 130kms from Cairo, and has many centres where you will find all you need: both the five-star Concorde Royal Beach Resort (+2 069 400 101), six kilometres from the city centre, and Ramada Ras Sedr Resort (+2 010 171 7841/9), have Splash water sports centres which can provide windsurfing equipment. At the tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Sharm El-Sheikh offers a wide range of water sports, including windsurfing. Of the booths you might contact, the most famous are the Sun n Fun chain, with outlets scattered along Neama Bay. Ain Al-Sukhna's Stella di Mare Resort (+2 062 250 100) on the Gulf of Suez is also an ideal location for windsurfing, and to the east of Alexandria at the end of the Suez Canal, Port Said has many clubs devoted to this sport.
