“Roznama 7th”, Roznama is a periodical competition and exhibition for contemporary visual art, organized by Medrar for Contemporary Art, whose intent is to function as an art and cultural incubator to nurturing the growth of artists, to boost their technical capabilities, and spread their artworks. After last year's intermission, Roznama 7th breaks new ground showcasing 56 young artists developing new and experimental media arts practices to give birth to a unique artistic and cultural experience.
Roznama is a periodical competition and exhibition for contemporary visual art by young Egyptians. This year, Roznama received over four hundred applications, the largest submission count to date. Out of the works, 56 were selected to be exhibited across three primary art spaces across downtown Cairo: Medrar for Contemporary Art, Townhouse Gallery, and Mashrabia Gallery (Annex). The works selected traverse an array of mediums, themes, and concepts, resulting in an exceptionally varied exhibition. Participants are comprised of diverse backgrounds, including mid-career professional artists, students, and novices. The works on display offer a glimpse into the broad range of artistic production taking place in Cairo today. The exhibition, curated by Mohamed Allam and Mariam Elnozahy, is supported by the British Council and the French Institute in Cairo (3-30 April).
