For the third year in a row, the Safarkhan gallery is holding a new exhibition by contemporary artist Ahmed Farid. In this collection, “Chaotic Beauty”, Farid treats us to a natural progression following from last year's, remaining true to the project in terms of composition and palette even as he offers something altogether more striking, complex and experimental using more expansive canvases and introducing mixed media, with the result that these are more layered and complex paintings. Farid is as conceptually bold as his palette and brushstrokes, depicting obscure cityscapes, the overwhelming clamour and chaos of metropolitan life in a characteristic symphony of explosive, contrasting and ethereal colour schemes. Images of distant shapes that barely emerge from the chromatic texture are lost in waves of colour, and constitute a real stylistic feature of the continuous updating of techniques and expressive forms the artist has carried out in recent years.
