Manial Palace Museum Al-Saraya St, Al-Manial, Cairo, Tel 02 2368 7495/ 2361 0561 The First Manial Palace Classical Music Festival (1-9 November) The festival will light up the historic Manial Palace with a rich programme of classical music concerts alongside the Manial Palace Museum and its exquisite ancient collection. The week-long festival is the first of its kind to be launched by the Friends of the Manial Palace Museum (FMPM) and is organized by Orient Productions. The festival is spearheaded by renowned opera singer and television actor Hassan Kamy and the museum Chairman of the board Prince Abbass Helmi. It has grown from the individual concerts and events previously held by the FMPM, and aims to fundraise for the preservation of the palace. The Manial Palace Festival is funded by the European Union, and supported by the French Cultural Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, The Spanish Embassy, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Czech Embassy and the Embassy of Slovak in Cairo. In addition to enriching the music scene in Egypt, the new festival is also an opportunity to re-open the private collection of Prince Mohamed Ali to the public. Golden Hall Thurs 1, 8pm: The first concert marks the 149th anniversary of the opening of the Cairo Opera House on 1 November 1868 and will feature the Egyptian mezzo soprano Gala El-Hadidi and the Armenian-French maestro, conductor and pianist Vahan Mardirossian. Mon 5, 8pm: Italian evening presenting the “Four seasons” by Vivaldi and Piazzolla with the Italian String Quartet “Mediterraneo” features Italian violinist and conductor Luca Marziali and the string orchestra of the Egyptian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by renowned Egyptian Maestro Ahmed El-Saedi. Tues 6, 8pm: The Czech-Slovak Chamber Duo: Czech violinist Pavel Burdych and Slovak pianist Zuzana Beresova,. and a solo recital by Czech pianist Jaromir Klepac. Thurs 8, 8pm: Spanish evening with the Spanish tenor Borja Quiza and the Spanish Maestro and Pianist Fernando Briones followed by the prodigy Austrian-Egyptian violinist Nadine Weber and accompanying pianist David Helsz. Fri 9, 7pm: A gala evening with the Egyptian pianist Ramzi Yassa marking the anniversary of the birth of Prince Mohamed Ali Tawfik in 1875, intermission with Egyptian soprano Fatma Said and German pianist and conductor Marcus Merkel after the interval (The dress code is formal in all concerts).
