Manial Palace Museum Al-Saraya St, Al-Manial, Cairo, visiting hours from 9am to 5pm, Tel 02 2368 7495/ 2361 0561 The First Manial Palace Music Festival (1-9 November) The festival will light up the historic Manial Palace with a rich programme of classical music concerts alongside the Manial Palace Museum and its exquisite ancient collection. The week-long festival is the first of its kind to be launched by the Friends of the Manial Palace Museum (FMPM) and is organized by Orient Productions. The festival is spearheaded by renowned opera singer and television actor Hassan Kamy and the museum Chairman of the board Prince Abbass Helmi. It has grown from the individual concerts and events previously held by the FMPM, and aims to fundraise for the preservation of the palace. Golden Hall Thurs 1, 8pm: The first concert marks the 149th anniversary of the opening of the Cairo Opera House on 1 November 1868 with the Egyptian mezzo soprano Gala El-Hadidi and the Armenian-French maestro and pianist Vahan Mardirossian
