It wasn't all Salah this season
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 17 - 05 - 2018

It's fair to say that Mohamed Salah's incredible debut season with Liverpool meant there was no way Egyptian fans would talk about any other Egyptian player abroad except him. However, players like Amr Warda, Trezeguet and Hussein Al-Shahat deserve respect and appreciation too for their efforts this season as all three followed in Salah's footsteps, albeit on a lower scale, by winning the best foreign player in each of their leagues. In the case of Salah, he's winning personal awards for fun this season and is set to beat Harry Kane of Tottenham for the top scorer of the league this season to complete the double of being the best player and top scorer in the best league in the world.
In the Greek league, Warda was voted the best foreign player in the league this season thanks to his 11 goals, seven assists and numerous splendid performances with his side Atromitos.
Trezeguet
In the Turkish league, Mahmoud Hassan, better known as Trezeguet, enjoyed another incredible season with his side Kasimpasa and was chosen the best foreign player in the league as well. The Egyptian star was a revelation on the wing and managed to notch 13 goals and nine assists so far to ensure he made the most of his season with a side that gave him plenty of playing time. He was the first name on the team sheet throughout the season and quickly became one of the stars of the league. Trezeguet will surely be having an eye on the World Cup to get a move to a bigger European club after justifying his decision to join a mid-table club in Turkey instead of sitting on the bench of Belgian giants Anderlecht.
Al-Shahat
Al-Shahat is another player who lit up the UAE league with some incredible performances, goals and assists. The Egyptian star who left Egyptian outfit Maqasa at the start of the season to join El-Ain settled straight away and quickly established himself as a fan favourite. His seven goals and 11 assists in just 11 games saw fans choose him their player of the season, beating the likes of Omar Abdulrahman, Mbarak Bossoufa, Marcus Berg and other top names in the league. Al-Shahat capped off a brilliant season with his side with a league title that eluded them in the least two seasons to give himself his first major trophy in his career.
