Losing weight naturally
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 29 - 04 - 2015

Now that summer has arrived, many of us are planning to get rid of those extra pounds gained during the chilly winter months in order to be more charming in summer attire.
Combining workouts with a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet will definitely help you lose those extra pounds. But to lose weight quickly and naturally it's recommended to look for efficient drinks that can speed up fat burning.
So forget about pills or supplements that may have side effects and try these trustworthy allies in the battle against the bulge:
Black coffee:If consumed in moderation, black coffee can have many health benefits. Not only does it contain antioxidants that fight off free radicals and lower the risk for certain types of cancer, but it can also reduce the risk of diabetes as well as heart disease. At the same time, caffeine is perfect for boosting your metabolism and increasing the number of calories you burn provided it is consumed without milk or sugar, as sweeteners will increase the calorie count.
Detox juices:These have a double benefit. They help your body get rid of the toxins, chemicals and dangerous substances that may have accumulated in your insides, and also help you lose weight in the fastest and most natural way. One eight-ounce glass of detox juice per week will do the trick.
You can easily make the juices in your own kitchen, either entirely out of fruit or vegetables or by combining the two. Citrus fruits are known to have powerful detox properties. High-fibre foods such as ginger, carrots and apples are also highly recommended for juices. If you want to shed pounds and stay healthy at the same time, you should go through at least one or two detox sessions every year.
Fruit juice:This is delicious, easy to prepare and rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals, and besides this there are literally hundreds of different fruits you can choose from. Among them are cranberry and pear juice, which contain high amounts of calcium and vitamin C.
Fruit juice also helps you lose weight by boosting your metabolism and increasing your overall energy levels. It also provides all the essential vitamins and proteins your body needs. Cranberry juice is essential for preventing various infections of the bladder. Pears add magnesium, potassium and phosphorus to your diet, minerals that are essential for keeping your bones strong and helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Green tea:If you do not have the time or you do not like to workout on a regular basis, drinking one cup of tea per day can deliver the antioxidants you need. It will also help you burn fat at a faster pace by boosting your metabolism. Green tea is perfect for burning more calories as well as for increasing your overall energy levels and suppressing your appetite. It's believed to reduce stress and will help you feel more relaxed.
Vegetable juices:No matter if you juice them alone or use them in conjunction with fruit, cabbage, kale, broccoli or cauliflower, vegetable juices can be your most efficient fat-fighting weapons, and there is no better way to keep the toxins away. Vegetables will also balance the hormone levels in your body and prevent hormone disruptors from interfering with normal hormone levels.
They are also rich in natural phytonutrients that are perfect for reducing the overall amount of body fat, reducing inflammation and controlling blood sugar levels, as well as providing a thorough detoxification.
