Egypt won 24 gold, three silver and three bronze medals at the Arab Junior-Youth Championship held in Qatar. The championship hosted in Doha in 1-7 January 2015 was divided into junior men and women under 20 and men and women youth under 17.
Among the participating teams were Egypt, Algeria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Egypt won the title of the championship and the first place in overall team standings with 648 points, while the Iraqi weightlifting team came in the second place with 583 points. The Algerian team took the third place with 575 points.
The Egyptian team is made up of Hossam Hassan (62 kg), Ahmed Emad (69 kg), Ahmed Adel (77 kg), Ahmed Mustafa (85 kg), Karim Hussein (94 kg), Omar Abdel-Wahab (105 kg), Osama El-Garhi (+105 kg) and Ahmed Abdel-Hamid (+105 kg).
In the junior men's U20 competition, Egyptian weightlifters Ahmed Adel in the 77 kg category, Ahmed Mustafa in 85 kg category, Karim Hussein in the 94 kg category, Omar Abdel Wahab in the 105 kg category, Ahmed Abdel-Hamid in the +105 kg category, Ahmed Emad in the 69 kg category all won first place.
Weightlifter Hossam Hassan (62 kg) won gold in the men's youth U17 and third place and bronze medal in the junior U20 competition. Weightlifter Osama El-Garhi (+105 kg) won first place in both the junior U20 and youth U17 competitions. In addition, the Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Ihab (77 kg) won first place at Qatar Cup Championship, which took place in 29-31 December 2014.
In an interview the President of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation (EWF) Mahmoud Mahgoub said, “This is the first championship in the season for 2015. The weightlifters' performance was very high. It is the best result the Egyptian team has achieved in the Arab Championship throughout history.”
EWF's agenda for 2015 is full. In February the IWF Youth World Championship in Lima, Peru, in 7-12 February, and the IWF Junior World Championships in Wroclaw, Poland in 6-14 June, as well as the 11th African Games in Brazzaville, the Congo Republic in 6-12 September and the IWF World Championship in Houston, Texas, in 20-29 November .
