Six per cent have experienced some form of physical violence during pregnancy. Female circumcision 89 per cent of married women in the urban governorates have been circumcised. 72 per cent of women in the frontier governorates have been circumcised. 61 per cent of girls aged between seven and nine years old are likely to be circumcised. Virtually all girls are circumcised in rural governorates before the age of 13. The median age at the time of circumcision is 10 years old.
Murder of women / honour crimes 79 per cent of reported murders of women were of women suspected of sexual behaviour. Nine per cent were related to adultery. Six per cent were related to incest. The perpetrators included husbands (41 per cent), fathers (34 per cent), brothers (18 per cent), and other relatives (7 per cent). Early marriage 49 per cent of girls in agricultural areas marry before the age of 16. 68 per cent of girls in Upper Egypt marry before the age of 18. Rape 98 per cent of rape and sexual assault cases are not reported to the authorities. 83 per cent of respondents have experienced sexual harassment in their lifetimes. 46 per cent reported sexual harassment on a daily basis. In a study of 140 women in Sohag in Upper Egypt, 66 per cent said they had been sexually harassed at work (70 per cent physically and 30 percent verbally). Education 8.1 per cent of children between the age of six and 18 years have never enrolled in school or have dropped out of basic education (equivalent to around 2.8 million children). 21 per cent of children are enrolled in pre-schools, very far from the national goal of 60 per cent enrollment.
