5 dead in Cairo clashes Friday: health ministry Twenty-two were injured nationwide in protests against El-Sisi's presidential bid, says health ministry
Clashes between security forces, supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and locals left five dead and 18 injured in various districts in East Cairo Friday. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, three, including a young reporter, were killed in Alf Maskan. A Coptic woman, Mary George, was reportedly stabbed to death by pro-Morsi supporters in the same area. In the nearby neighbourhoods of Mazlean El-Eshreen and Mazlaean Ain Shams, two other citizens were killed and sent to a hospital by locals. Outside the capital, four were injured in the Nile Delta's Damietta, added the statement. Meanwhile, a statement by the Ministry of Interior said that 100 were arrested across the country Friday. The clashes come amid continuous calls for protest by the Muslim Brotherhood-led National Alliance to Support Legitimacy against Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's recent announcement of his running for the presidency. The group slammed his decision and said it confirms that the ouster of Morsi last July was a "coup d'etat." The alliance has been behind protests on a regular basis since Morsi's ouster, although the number of demonstrators has decreased significantly in recent months in the face of a crackdown by security forces. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/97795.aspx
