Art Alert: DAAS to stage circus performance at Azhar Park
Al-Azhar Park will host Lost and Found between 3-5 April, tackling children's relationships with their surroundings in a circus performance by Al-Darb Al-Ahmar Arts School
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 03 - 2014

Al-Darb Al-Ahmar Arts School (DAAS) will stage a circus performance titled Lost and Found on three consecutive days -- 3, 4 and 5 April -- on the Al-Azhar Park stage.
Directed by Hanan Hajj Ali, the play proved highly successful when it premiered in February 2014 at the American University in Cairo's Falaki Theatre.
The performance takes elements from circus arts and theatre to present the stories of children's relationships with their families, their neighbourhoods, and their country.
DAAS is an initiative founded in 2011 by Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy (The Culture Resource) with support from the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and Al-Fanar Foundation.
The school aims to teach circus arts and music to students ranging from ages eight to 16, as well as provide health and social care to its students. Today, the school counts over 150 students.
One of the most recent performances by DAAS was during the opening of the Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children which took place on 12 March. A large group of DAAS students presented their acrobatic skills in front of a packed crowd in the gallery of the Hanager Theatre. Performers were accompanied by their colleagues on percussion, while others beat the very wooden chairs for added rhythm.
Programme:
Thursday 3, Friday 4 and Saturday 5 April at 8pm
Al-Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Al-Darassa, Cairo
