Art Alert: Banisher from Poland to join Metal Blast festival in Zamalek
One-day metal music festival with bands from Egypt and a special guest from Poland to take place at El Sawy Culturewheel on Saturday
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 03 - 2014

The third annual Metal Blast music festival will take place in Zamalek's El Sawy Culturewheel on Saturday 22 March. The event will include performances of established Egyptian metal bands, but the special guest of the evening will be Banisher, a Polishtechnical death metal band currently based in Krakow, Poland.
The festival will kick off at 3pm with metal music workshops, before the musicians take the stage at 6pm.
Founded in Rzeszow, Poland in 2005, Banisher includes Tytus Kalicki as vocals, Hubert Więcek on guitars, Daniel Wójtowicz on bass and Łukasz "Lucass" Krzesiewicz on drums. The band has played all over Poland and at numerous international metal festivals as well. They have cooperated with musicians from the USA, Canada, Portugal, Sweden, Czech Republic, among others.
In 2005 the band released their first demo, Sorrow of Death. In the following years Banisher released Human Sacrifice, Slaughterhouse and Promo. Their most recent LP, Scarcity, saw the light in 2013. One critic described the album as proof of the band's technical proficiency and testimony to their continuous development. "Though sounds on the album do not bring any discoveries, they all share one undeniable advantage: they are fresh and beat with enthusiasm," Arek Lerch wrote about the record.
The Egyptian line-up will include alternative metal band Devour, heavy metal band Divine, progressive oriental metal band Medic and deathcore metal band Destiny in Chains.
The first Metal Blast took place in 2011 in the form of a concert, which saw over 1,000 fans flock to the popular El Sawy venue in Zamalek. In 2012 the one-day Metal Blast festival was launched, and in 2013 a number of international performers played at the event.
Tickets, which can be purchased at El Sawy, cost LE50.
