Ahly coach satisfied with Champions League result Qualification is the most important thing, says Mohamed Youssef after Ahly sneak through with a 4-3 victory on penalties over Young Africans
Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef has said he is relieved to have qualified for the CAF Champions League round of 16 after beating Tanzanian side Young Africans 4-3 on penalties. Defending champions Ahly escaped a potentially embarrassing exit in the round of 32 in Alexandria on Sunday. The game ended 1-0 to Ahly after 90 minutes, which sent the game into extra time after the Tanzanian side won 1-0 at home in the first leg last week. "The game was very difficult as we faced a tough opponent," Youssef was quoted as saying on the club's official website after the game. "Young Africans are the best team in Tanzania and performed well during the game as they have talented players," he added. Suffering from their fans' absence due to security issues, Ahly continued their disappointing series of displays and struggled to be consistent, missing many chances. "The players were in a hurry to score early and that affected their performance. "The most important thing is qualifying for the last 16 of the African tournament," he concluded. In the round of 16, Ahly will take on Libyan side Ahly Benghazi, who qualified after a 2-0 home win over Ghanaian outfit Berekum Chelsea on Sunday under the guidance of Egyptian coach Tarek El-Ashri.
