Egypt's Salah plays entire second half but Chelsea exit FA Cup Egypt's Mohamed Salah fails to help Chelsea avoid a defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round
Egypt's Mohamed Salah played the full second half for his third appearance with Chelsea but his side put in a below-par display to lose 2-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday. Salah, who joined Chelsea from Swiss side Basel on a five-and-a-half year deal last month, started on the bench before replacing disappointing striker Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon in the second period. He was initially deployed as a lone striker, supported by three attacking midfielders in Eden Hazard, Willian and Ramires. However, he barely touched the ball; with coach Jose Mourinho moving swiftly to introduce Fernando Torres to spearhead Chelsea's frontline. Salah drifted back to his usual position as a winger but Man City doubled their lead with a controversial goal from French winger Samir Nasri, leaving Chelsea with an uphill climb. The 21-year-old and his attacking-minded teammates were contained by a rock-solid Man City defence as the hosts claimed a deserved win.
