Art Alert: 'Herding Chimeras' exhibition in Darb 1718 'Herding Chimeras,' a photography, painting and poetry exhibition by two Swiss artists and one Egyptian artist, will open at Darb 1718 on Saturday 18 January
Egyptian artist and illustrator Amro Okacha and Swiss artistsOlivier Gschwend and Anthony Martins de Macedo will be displaying a collection of their work in a joint effort in Darb 1718. 'Hidden Chimeras' will feature paintings by Okacha, photography by Gschwend and poetry by de Macedo. Okacha's work, a project titled '1765.8 Miles in a Point," explores the day-to-day similarities in the lives of an Egyptian and a Swiss and the merging aspects of the two different societies that they both inhabit. Gschwend, meanwhile, attempts to express himself through a series of photographs depicting artists who are themselves trying to express their own feelings in their artwork, through "Surrgoate Language." De Macedo's poetry will be featured as a part of the opening night performance, 'PODY', a half-hour poetry-painting performance reflecting the shock, disenchantment and brutality he experienced while discovering Cairo.
