Abou-Treika asks to terminate Ahly contract amicably
Ahly icon Mohamed Abou-Treika has asked the club management to accept his retirement decision and terminate his contract one year early

Egypt and Ahly retired playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika has officially asked team football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz to terminate his current contract with the team amicably, the Cairo club announced on its website Sunday.
Abou-Treika has one year remaining on his contract with Ahly but decided to quit football after failing to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 35-year-old star asked Ahly's management to terminate his contract inwriting.
The iconic midfielder, who had a glorious career, dreamt of making it to the 2014 World Cup after missing out in 2006 and 2010, but his hopes were crashed when Egypt lost to Ghana 6-1 in the first leg of the tournament final qualifiers.
He then decided to hang up his boots after participating with Ahly in the CAF Champions League and Club World Cup in Morocco.
After Ahly won the CAF Champions League and participated in the Club World Cup, Abou-Treika announced his retirement from football.
Abou-Treika, who joined Ahly from Tersana in January 2004, was an inspiration for both Ahly and Egypt, opening a golden age with 22 trophies won with the Red Devils, including five Champions League titles and a bronze medal at the Club World Cup in 2006.
He also won the Africa-based Player of the Year Award in 2006, 2008 and 2012. He is nominated for the same title in 2013. The winner will be announced this month.
