Articles regulating and scheduling Egypt's parliamentary and presidential elections did not garner the 75 percent required approval rate by Egypt's constitutional amending committee Articles dealing with Egypt's coming parliamentary and presidential elections were the first not to pass a vote by Egypt's 50-member constitutional amending committee, currently holding their second and final voting session. Article 229 stating that the next parliamentary elections are to be conducted through a mixed system of two thirds individual candidacy and one third party lists was rejected after 18 against it, 27 voted for it, and 3 abstentions. The vote requires at least 75 percent approval before an article passes. Article 230 outlining the timeline of the coming elections, stating that parliamentary elections must be held after a minimum period of 30 days and a maximum of 90 days following the ratification of the constitution shared the same fate as Article 229. The article also stipulates presidential elections must be held within a period of 30 days after parliament convenes. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/87990.aspx
