Egypt's chief auditor charged with libeling judges
Hisham Geneina accused of libeling Judges' Club after saying its internal elections are a farce and its senior members should be investigated for corruption

Central Auditing Agency (CAA) head Hisham Geneina and two journalists were on Monday referred to court on charges of libeling the Judges' Club.
Geneina, along with Al-Masry Al-Youm journalist Mohamed El-Sanhoury and its former editor-in-chief Magdi El-Gallad, are accused of libel over an interview published in the paper in January 2012.
In the interview, Geneina criticised Judges' Club leader Ahmed El-Zend and its senior members, described the club's internal elections as a "farce" and called for an investigation into senior members using their positions to make illegitimate financial gains.
The Supreme Judicial Council delegated Judge Khalil Omar to investigate the case before it was referred to the criminal court.
At the time of the interview, Geneina was an appeal court judge and a former candidate for the Judges' Club leadership.
