On Wednesday, the 32nd annual Sharjah International Book Fairis to honour Egypt's former culture minister Farouk Hosni for his great contribution for Arab culture and for his efforts to the enhance arts and creativity in different cultural forums. According to a press release from Sharjah's deptartment of culture and information, Hosni will receive the 2013 Sharjah Cultural Personality Award at an honourary ceremony in Sharjah which will be attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi III, a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and current ruler of Sharjah. The book fair is to open on Wednesday and will run until 16 November. The fair will put on display more than 400,000 titles and will hold include exhibitors from 53 countries, including 23 Arab countries. Over 580 activities are scheduled to take place. This year Lebanon is the fair's guest of honour, while Portugal, New Zealand, Hungary and the UK are participating for the first time. The children's programme will include over 200 activities while the cookery programme will include 25 activities throughout the book fair, including a sampling of Indian, Pakistani, Gulf, and the Mediterranean cuisines executed by local and international chefs. Among the guest of honours this year are Lebanese Minister of Culture Gaby Leon, renowned author Lord Jeffrey Archer, and former Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Authors and novelists attending the event will include novelist and author Najwa Barakat, Lebanese poet, and television host Zahi Wehbe, Egyptian novelist Yousuf El-Qaeed, Algerian novelist Wasini Al-Araj, Kuwaiti television presenter Dr Fawziah Al-Dorai, Lebanese television host Tony Khalifa, and Indian actor Kamal Hassan, among many more. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/85729.aspx
