Ahly's left-winger Sayed Moawad is doubtful he will participate in the Smouha game next Thursday, in day 13 of the league, due to a lingering injury. Mohamed Barakat and Mohamed Shawky, however, say they are fit for the rendez-vous after being sidelines with bouts of flu. Moawad, an international star and key player on the team, has been struggling with a thigh injury that kept him out of action for more than four weeks. He failed to pass a fitness test on Sunday and the medical staff decided to rest him. “I prefer to give more time to rest to be certain that he has totally recovered,” Ahly's doctor Magdy Abdel Aziz told Ahram Online. The left-wing position has been a weak point at Ahly with Moawad's absence. Sherif Abdel-Fadil, Ayman Ashraf and Mohamed Abdel-Fattah have failed to perform in his absence. The re-entry of Barakat and Shawky have given the new coach Abdel Aziz Abdel-Shafy more options ahead of the Smouha encounter. Ahly are fourth in the Egyptian Premier League table with 18 points and they still have three games in hand.
