Ruud Krol to lead Tunisia in World Cup qualifiers Dutchman Ruud Krol replaces resigned Nabil Maaloul to lead Tunisian national team during the 2014 World Cup knock-out qualifiers
Tunisia's Football Federation has named Dutch Ruud Krol as interim coach, to manage the national team during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers playoff. Krol replaces former resigned coach Nabil Maaloul. Maaloul announced his resignation after Tunisia failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, before the international governing body of football (FIFA) decided to punish Cape Verde for fielding an ineligible player, and named Tunisia to take part in the playoffs. Tunisia has now become the tenth African country to top its group. Others are Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia and Senegal. "The president of CS Sfaxien Lotfi Abdennadher and Tunisian FA president Wadii Al Jarii have reached an agreement to allow coach Ruud Krol to take charge of the national team in the interim," read a statement on Tunisian FA's official website. "The agreement is for the coach to lead the team to the knockout stage of the World Cup qualifiers." "During the preparation period, Krol will be able to exercise his duties as Sfaxien coach," the statement continued. The World Cup qualifiers play-off will be held in Cairo on 16 September to determine Africa's five representatives in home and away games. The first leg is scheduled for the middle of October and the second in November.
