On Saturday, The Egyptian Current Party condemned the arrest of protesters in Cairo's Sphinx Square in Mohandeseen, demanding their immediate release.
The party, whose founding members are former Muslim Brotherhood members, expelled from the organisation shortly after the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak, said that the demonstration heading to Sphinx square was violently attacked by security forces using tear gas grenades.
The party has voiced its condolences for the families of those killed in clashes on Friday.
Egypt's health ministry has said that eight people were killed and 221 injured nationwide during clashes on Friday.
Three deaths were confirmed by Ahram's Arabic website during clashes between police forces and protesters in Giza's Mohandiseen district.
Another two were reported killed in Sharqiya province's Zagazig city after clashes between Morsi supporters and street vendors, according to Al-Ahram.
One resident was killed in Port Said, according to a health ministry official, who spoke to Al-Ahram Arabic.
Another died in hospital in Ismailia after being shot in the head.
In addition, an army conscript was killed and two others injured in an attack by unknown assailants in the Suez Canal city of Port Said late on Friday.
A policeman was also killed in North Sinai by unknown assailants as he was driving his car in Al-Arish city.
On Friday, demonstrations took place in several cities across Egypt led by Islamist supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi. However, turnout did not even come close to the hundreds of thousands of protesters at previous rallies organised by the alliance.
