Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o relishes ‘last dream' after Chelsea move After two unsuccessful attempts to play in the English Premier League, Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o says he finally fulfilled his dream after joining Chelsea
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o is relishing “his last dream as a professional” after completing a move to English Premier League side Chelsea. The four-time African Player of the Year joined Chelsea on a one-year deal on a free transfer after leaving Anzhi Makhachkala. He will be reunited with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, whom he worked with during a successful stint at Italy's Inter Milan. “I've had a couple of opportunities to come to England before, including the first time Jose was here - but it didn't work out for one reason or another,” Eto'o said on Chelsea's official website. “Since that time, I have had a career where I have been lucky enough to win a lot of trophies in different countries. But one of my last dreams as a professional is to come and play in England and see if I can have the same success as in my previous clubs. “I don't see it as a final challenge but to have a good time, enjoy my football, and have success with this team.” Eto'o began his career in European football at Real Madrid, but joined Real Mallorca in 2000 after a successful loan spell. He lifted the Copa del Rey with Mallorca in 2003 before joining Barcelona a year later. The striker enjoyed stunning success at Barcelona, scoring in Champions League final triumphs in 2006 and 2009 and also claiming three Spanish league titles. He subsequently joined Inter in 2009, as part of the deal that took Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Barcelona, and won his third Champions League title in his first season at San Siro. It made him the first player to win consecutive European trebles with two different clubs. His move to big-spending Anzhi in August 2011 came as something of a shock, although Kerimov was reported to have made him the best-paid player in world football. Eto'o has also won the Africa Cup of Nations on two occasions with Cameroon and was a member of the team that triumphed at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
