Carrying weapons in protests is wrong: Religious authority Dar Al-Ifta religious authority warns against using weapons in demonstrations, urges Egyptians to remain peaceful
Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta, the main authority thatissues Islamic fatwas (religious edicts), said on Saturday that carrying weapons during demonstrations is religiously wrong because it runs the risk of killing, which is punishable by God. The Dar Al-Ifta stressed that Egyptian blood is considered haram (religiously forbidden) and rejected all forms of violence, which it said has caused the loss of innocent blood regardless of political affiliation. The religious authority also warned against attacks on mosques, homes and public property. The statement demanded that state institutions carry out their responsibility to protect the lives of citizens and public property, adding that violence should not be a way of self expression. Egypt is expecting mass demonstrations on Sunday against President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood from which he hails. Hundreds of thousands of Morsi supporters are already gathered at the Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in Cairo's Nasr City located only a few kilometres away from the presidential palace where the opposition is planning to converge. During the past week, clashes have repeatedly erupted between opponents and supporters of President Morsi across Egypt's different governorates, leaving at least six confirmed killed and hundreds injured. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/75225.aspx
