Tahrir Monologues will screen this summer in cultural venues across Egypt's capital, including Darb 1718,10 Mahmoud Bassiouny and Shorouk Bookstore, among others. The filmed production of Tahrir Monologues is directed by Ahmed Abdalla (Director of Microphone and Heliopolis) and produced by Qabila TV. Tahrir Monologuesis an independent theatre project that emerged in February 2011 with the aim to preserve the experience of Tahrir Square during the first 18 days of Egypt's most recent revolution. Initially incubated by Nahdet Al Mahrousa, a local Non Governmental Organization, the project was launched by Sondos Shabayek, 26, a freelance journalist, performer and theatre director. Following the revolution, Tahrir Monologues took to stages across the country, telling and re-telling personal tales about the experiences shared by millions of Egyptians in Tahrir Square. Tahrir Monologists takes the audience back to demonstrations that began on 25 January, 2011 to protest police brutality and exploded into demands for the ouster of dictator Hosni Mubarak and goes beyond to incorporate other stories from subsequent protests and events. "Some live to forget, but we live to remember. We used to tell stories to celebrate, now we tell stories to resist," the Tahrir Monologues team said in a statement on Facebook.
