Former Mubarak tourism minister Garana released pending retrial
Garana, originally found guilty in 2011 in two corruption cases, is released following an appeal after having served the maximum amount of jail time

Northern Cairo Criminal Court has ordered the release of Egypt's former tourism minister Zohair Garana as he awaits retrial in two corruption cases.
The court's ruling came in accordance with Egyptian law which states that the maximum amount of time for detention pending trial is 180 days, a period which Garana has fulfilled.
The former minister, who served under ousted president Hosni Mubarak, was sentenced in 2011 to three years in prison on charges of issuing licenses to tourism companies, despite being stripped of that authority and banned from doing so.
In another case, Garana was sentenced to five years in prison after he was found guilty of corruption and violation of auction laws in buying land in the resort area of Ain Sohkna.
Garana appealed both verdicts and an Egyptian court ordered his retrial in February.
The court's order on Garana comes in the wake of the release of several former Egyptian ministers who are being tried on corruption charges.
On Saturday, ex-housing minister Ibrahim Soliman was released without bail pending his retrial on charges of squandering public funds in the Six of October Development and Investment Company (SODIC) corruption case.
