Abdel-Moneim Kamel, a 'spiritual father of ballet' in Egypt, passed away on 25 February 2013. Following a bright career at home and abroad - including successes at Italy's renowned La Scala - in the 1980s Kamel took on the task of reviving ballet in Egypt.
His contribution to the country's arts scene grew by the year, and in the last years of his life he served as the Cairo Opera House's chairman (2004-2012).
Kamel leaves behind generations of dancers filled with a passion for dance along with countless artists who remember long years of dynamic cooperation with him.

The evening will be joined by the Cairo Opera Choir with choir master Aldo Magnato, the Cairo Opera Ballet Company, while the Cairo Opera Orchestra will be conducted by three conductors consecutively: Nayer Nagui, Hisham Gabr and Sherif Mohie El-Din.
The artistic director of the event is Erminia Kamel.
