Former Egypt parliament secretary jailed on corruption charges
Sami Mahran kept his job as secretary general of the People's Assembly even after the 2011 uprising

Sami Mahram, former secretary-general of the dissolved People's Assembly, was sentenced to three years in prison on illicit gains charges by Giza Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Mahran has been ordered to pay back LE17 million to the government.
In September 2012, Mahran was referred to the court on charges of illegally acquiring LE22 million.
Mahran was parliamentary secretary general from 1988. The Muslim Brotherhood retained him as the top People's Assembly administrator after its Freedom and Justice Party won a parliamentary majority in 2012.
The lower house of parliament was dissolved in June 2012 by a court ruling.
