PROGRAMME: El-Geneina theatre returns with impressive line-up
El-Geneina Theatre, run by the Culture Resource, is back this April and May with a line-up of some of the region's most renowned independent musicians
Published in Ahram Online on 08 - 04 - 2013

Azhar Park's stage, El-Geneina, will bring musicians from all over the region every weekend of April and May starting 11 April for evening performances.
The theatre, run by Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafi (The Culture Resource) is one of Cairo's most active stages, bringing carefully selected musicians from Egypt, the Milddle East and further abroad. Unfortunately, the programme only extends through Spring, Summer and Autumn, with a special programme in Ramadan. However, the theatre closes in the winter, a period when Cairo loses a unique space.
The programme kicks of with Tunisian musician Ghalia Benali, who mesmerises the audience with her mellow sound, and profound lyrics. Among the highlights of the programme are Autostrad (Jordan) who are considered to be one of the best bands on the Arab independent music scene, and haven't performed in Cairo in almost two years.
Jordan also brings Akher Zapheer and Karim Ziad Quintet hailing from Algeria and France. Lebanese Charbel Rouhana & the Beirut Oriental Ensemble will also play.
Musicians from Egypt will be opening for some of the international acts, while the more established performers will headline. Egyptian musicians include Ramy Attalah Quintet, Shaware'na band, Maii Waleed, Youssra El-Hawary, Maryam Saleh, Ahmed Maher, Wust El-Balad and the Percussion Show will close the programme with an opening act of a percussion show by Darb Al-Ahmar Art School.
