Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi is due to visitSudan's capital, Khartoum,on Thursday. The two-day visit will see the Egyptian president hold talks with his Sudanese counterpart, President Omar Al-Bashir, with a view to fostering bilateral cooperation between the countries in the fields of politics, economy and trade. Presidential spokesperson Ihab Fahmy said Morsi and Al-Bashir are also planning to meet with Egyptian and Sudanese businesspeople on Thursday evening to address the promotion of economic cooperation between the countries, according to state news agency MENA. In a Sunday press statement, Sudanese presidential spokesperson Emad Sayyed Ahmed said Morsi's visit to Sudan was “historic” and cements longstanding relations between the two countries. According to Sayyed, Morsi will also meet with senior figures in Al-Bashir's National Congress Party (NCP), as well as Egyptian expatriates living in Sudan. Thursday's visit will be the first by Morsi to Sudan since he took office in June 2012.
