Handball: Egypt say good bye to World Championship The Pharaohs failed to pass the knockout phase despite delivering better performance in the second half against Slovenia
Egypt have been eliminated from the Handball World Championship second round after Monday's 31-26 defeat against Slovenia. Seeing Slovenia ending the first half with a 19-11 advance, Egypt players produced a superb performance in the second half succeeding to close the gap, but they failed to maintain their dominance until the end. The Pharaohs have defeated Australia 39-14 on Saturday to reach the tournament's round of 16 as Group D leaders but with virture of a superior goal difference over North African rivals Algeria after both sides finished level on three points. Egypt have failed to go beyond the group stage since 2003. Their best ever position was fourth-place finish in the 2001 edition in France.
