Amr Zaki returns to Egypt squad After striker Sherif Ashraf's injury, Bob Bradley calls Amr Zaki from Turkish league for upcoming friendlies ahead of World Cup qualifiers
Egyptian national team technical staff, under the leadership of American manager Bob Bradley, have called Turkey's Elazigspor striker Amr Zaki to the Pharaohs training camp. The seven-time African champions will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday to face Ghana and Ivory Coast on 10 and 14 January respectively as part of their preparations for March's World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe. The 29-year-old forward has met Bradley who said he needed him to replace Sherif Ashraf who has been ruled out due to injury. Zaki joined Elazigspor on a three-year contract coming from Egyptian side Zamalek during the previous summer transfer window. The former ENPPI player moved to Zamalek in 2006, where he was loaned to English Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2008-2009 and scored 11 goals in 33 matches. He also had a short spell at Hull City where he made six appearances. Egypt, who recently defeated Qatar 2-0 in friendly, will host Zimbabwe on 22 March in their third group-stage match. The Pharaohs topped Group G with six points from two games, three ahead of second-placed Guinea. Zimbabwe and Mozambique have one point each.
