Zamalek cancels Monchengladbach friendly, face Zenit and Shakhtar instead
The Whites will prepare for a new season with new friendly matches, while AWOL striker Gaafar rejoins trainings

Egypt's Zamalek club will not play their friendly match against Germany's Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach on 11 January, preferring to play in a friendly tournament in Abu Dhabi instead.
The Whites recently reached an agreement to play the Monchengladbachmatch in Dubai amid preparations for the new Premier League season starting 2 February. It seems that now they have other plans.
"The friendly match against Borussia Monchengladbach is cancelled as we have received another offer to play in a friendly tournament in Abu Dhabi from 16 to 21 January," Zamalek's coach Jorvan Vieira told the club's website Saturday.
"I hoped to play Monchengladbach, but the sponsor asked us to participate only in one event. In the new tournament, we will play alongside Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk, Russia's Zenit Saint Petersburg and Saudi Al-Hilal," the Brazilian tactician added.
Gaafar returns, ready for punishment
Meanwhile, Cairo giants striker Ahmed Gafaar returned to the club's training session Saturday after an unauthorised week's absence.
"There is no rift regarding a contract extension. Handling some personal problems is the reason behind my absence. I have apologised to the technical staff and I am ready for any punishment," Gaafar declared.
"I will do my best in the coming period to prepare well for the domestic league and also the African Champions league," he added.
