Zamalek's weary coach Vieira to resign
Jorvan Vieira tells a United Arab Emirates newspaper that he will step down as coach of Egyptian giants Zamalek

Zamalek coach Jorvan Vieira said on Saturday he would hand in his resignation after growing increasingly frustrated with the ongoing Egyptian football stoppage.
“I will not stay at Zamalek, I'm leaving. I will return to Cairo on Saturday to put the finishing touches on my resignation,” the Brazilian tactician, who is spending a vacation in the United Arab Emirates, told Eamarat Alyoum newspaper.
“There is no league and I'm a professional coach who doesn't work just to earn money. They keep saying the league will start but nothing happens ... there is a problem between the Egyptian Football Association and the interior ministry, which does not want to secure the games.”
The EFA has tried in vain to hold Egypt's premier club competition, which was suspended last season in the wake of February's Port Said tragedy that left over 70 fans killed following crowd riots in a game between Ahly and Masry.
They announced several dates for possible league start but their efforts hit a stumbling block after the interior ministry declined to assume responsibility for security inside stadiums.
The 2012-13 league season was supposed to be played behind closed doors at military-owned stadiums as the cash-strapped clubs struggle to fulfil the new safety requirements set by the Egyptian public prosecution.
“They (authorities) are afraid to start the league because what happened in Port Said ... it's very difficult for me now to work in such circumstances in which nothing is certain. I'm fed up,” Vieira added.
However, Zamalek said on their official website on Saturday that Vieira will sit down with his assistants on Sunday to set out plans for their African Champions League preparations.
The 59-year-old boss, best known for steering Iraq to the Asian Cup title in 2007, took over as Zamalek coach last August following the resignation of Hassan Shehata.
He could not save the ailing Cairo giants from an embarrassing Champions League exit after they finished bottom in their group which also included arch-rivals Ahly, who went on to claim a record-extending seventh title.
