Beating Egypt is not a problem, says Zimbabwe coach Zimbabwe needs determination and confidence to pass Egypt in 2014 World Cup qualifier, according to their new coach
Zimbabwe's newly appointed coach Klaus Dieters Pagels says his team chances at 2014 World Cup qualifiers are still alive, insisting that passing Egypt will not be a problem. Pagels was working as a technical advisor to the Zimbabwe Football Association until last Wednesday when he was unveiled as the national team head coach, succeeding Rahman Gumbo, who resigned last week after Zimbabwe's failure to reach the 2013 African Nations Cup Finals. Zimbabwe has just a single point from their first two matches in Group G against Mozambique and Guinea. They next play Egypt away in March of next year. “We can win the rest of the qualifiers matches. It is just a matter of working hard on what we want to achieve and go all out to win. Whether it's home or away, we just have to win,” Pagels told Supersport.com on Monday. “Our approach will be attacking football. But we also have to defend well so that we don't expose ourselves at the back. But we need to win all the four remaining games if we want to finish the group on top,” he added. The Pharaohs will not play a competitive game until March when they host Zimbabwe, and under the guidance of Pagels, the visitors could be in for a surprise. “We can win both home and away matches against Egypt, it's not a problem. We just have to be determined and confident that we can do it,” concluded Pagels. Egypt has made a fine start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, beating Mozambique and Guinea in their first two games.
