Swansea beat Newcastle 2-1 in a matchup of Premier League mid-table sides at St. James' Park on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, Miguel Michu opened the scoring for the visitors in the 58th minute when he headed in Pablo Hernandez's ball from close range. Jonathan de Guzman doubled the advantage in the 87th. Demba Ba scored a consolation goal in stoppage time but the Magpies' comeback bid fell short as Swansea secured its first victory in Newcastle since 1980. The victory was the just the second in 10 league games for the Swans, who moved up to 10th place with 16 points. Newcastle, meanwhile, remained on 14 points and dropped to 12th in the standings.
