Art Alert: Cairo Symphony Orchestra to perform Turkish oratorio
Turkish composer Ahmed Adnan Saygoun's famous oratorio 'Yunus Emre' will be performed by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra on 3 and 4 November

An oratorio based on the work of 13th-century poet Yunus Emre and composed by Ahmed Adnan Saygoun will be performed on Saturday, 3 November at the Cairo Opera House and on Sunday, 4 November at the Alexandria Opera House.
Composed in 1946, the oratorio is considered one of the most important classical compositions in Turkish musical history. Translated into five languages, it incorporates Turkish folk melodies within post-romantic-style oratorio.
Saygoun, meanwhile, is considered one of the most important composers of the 20th century.
The concert, dubbed 'A Message of Love and Peace,' represents a collaboration between the Cairo Opera House and the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, and includes a number of Turkish artists.
The Cairo Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Nayer Nagui, and will include an A Capella Choir with choirmaster Maya Gvineria. Soloists to perform will include: Esin Talinli (soprano), Ferda Yetiser (mezzo-soprano), Senor Talinli (tenor) and tevfik Rodos (bass).
