Compagnie Morosof electrifies American University in Cairo's Falaki Theatre with their amazing circus skills
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 10 - 2012

French duo Compagnie Morosof performed at the American University in Cairo's Falaki Theatre on Sunday and Monday this week.
The show was part of the international circus festival, CirCairo 2012, organised by Al-Mawred Al-Thakafy.
Compagnie Morosof, which includes a man and a woman, was founded in 2006. The show titledEppur Si Muove(And Yet it Turns) represents their most recent creation.
Instead of watching circus jugglers and clowns, the audience is invited to witness the couple perform a combination of acrobatics, drama, theatrical arts and pantomime.
The hour-long story uses a three floor-high wooden box to show the high acrobatic skills of the performers.
The duo challenge gravity by climbing the box throughout the show.
On the dramatic level, the story presents a captivating take on the multilayered emotions that emerge in a relationship between a man and a woman, whether they are friends, lovers or enemies. Their story, in which curiosity emerges between the two characters, and moves to rivalry, doesn't lack infatuation as well as forceful struggles.
With usage of theatrical and pantomime elements as their tools, the duo excels in their acrobatic perfection that is entwined with a seemingly effortless execution of many difficult numbers.
As a contemporary circus, Compagnie Morosofgoes beyond many other performing art forms. Through their dramatic continuum, they find a link between all of them. As such, Eppur Si Muove is an unforgettable experience for all those who value art with high visual aesthetics, looking for values that represent all: circus, theatre or pantomime.
